DNCC to run mobile courts against food adulteration: Mayor

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will run mobile courts in all its areas against food adulteration during the upcoming Ramadan to ensure safe food for everyone.

DNCC Mayor Md Atiqul Islam announced this at a workshop at Nagar Bhaban in the capital today.

Bangladesh Safe Food Authority and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and Dhaka North City Corporation jointly organised the workshop.

"Mobile courts of DNCC will conduct a drive in all its 10 zones to take legal action against adulterators. Ensuring quality of food and keeping hotels and restaurant clean is a must," he said.

"We have to ensure safe food not only at hotels and restaurants but also at street food shops. DNCC will also work to ensure the quality of street food," he added.

He also said they have decided to provide 100 licenses of food carts where third gender community and special needy people will get priority.

It is very important to change mentality of the people to ensure safe food and to build a healthy nation, he added.

"Future generations cannot be destroyed by providing adulterated food. Besides, proper application of laws concerned, building awareness are also very important," said Atique.

Md Selim Reza, chief executive officer of the DNCC, said they will strengthen monitoring in this regard during Ramadan.
