Sattar wins Brahmanbaria-2 by-polls

Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, former adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, has won Brahmanbaria-2 by-elections as an independent candidate by securing 40,817 votes.

According to unofficial results, his nearest rival, Jatiya Party candidate Abdul Hamid Bhasani, bagged 9,580 votes, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent.

Sattar got the backing of Awami League during his campaign.

Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan was an elected lawmaker from Brahmanbaria and Cumilla as a BNP candidate for five times, including the 11th parliamentary election held in 2018.

He resigned from BNP in early December last year.

Seven BNP lawmakers, including Sattar on December 10, announced their resignations from parliament at the party's Golapbagh rally in Dhaka. Later, they submitted their resignation letters to the Speaker.
