Probe AL mayoral candidate's code of conduct violation: EC to Cumilla administration

The Election Commission last night (May 15, 2022) asked the returning officer and local administration to probe allegations of violating the electoral code of conduct against Arfanul Haque, Awami League mayoral candidate for the Cumilla City Corporation polls.

EC asked the RO, deputy commissioner of Cumilla and superintendent, to probe the allegations separately and to submit the report within 24 hours, EC Joint Scretary SM Asaduzzaman confirmed the issue to The Daily Star last night.

EC in its letters said two videos surfaced on social media showing the AL candidate brought out a procession after submission of nomination paper and held a meeting inside of Cumilla AL office.

EC said it was a violation of the electoral code of conduct.

Election to the Cumilla City Corporation is scheduled to be held on June 15.

Currently, aspirants are submitting nomination papers. According to the schedule, the last date for submitting nomination papers is May 17 while the deadline for evaluating nomination papers is May 19, and the last date for withdrawing candidature is May 26.
