Ivy visits uncle, rival Taimur with sweets

Narayanganj City Corporation's mayor-elect Selina Hayat Ivy visited rival candidate Taimur Alam Khandakar with sweets at his house today, a day after she won the election for the third time in a row.

Ivy went to independent candidate Taimur's home at Masdaire in the city this afternoon, our local correspondent reports.

Before and after being elected mayor, she said that if she would be elected as the mayor, she would go to her uncle Taimur's house with sweets.

While expressing her reaction as the NCC mayor-elect, she told media she wanted to meet Taimur with sweets in the morning but he was not at the house at the time.

When contacted, Taimur said that police detained several of his men, so he was at the court pleading for their bail.

Yesterday, Ivy won a third consecutive term as the Narayanganj mayor as she defeated her rival by a big margin in the city's election, which was largely festive and peaceful.

The Awami League candidate bagged 1,59,097 votes while independent contender Taimur got 92,166 votes.

Ivy became the first mayor to hold office for three consecutive terms. The first time she had fought and won as an independent candidate.
