Dr Pran Gopal Datta gets AL nomination for Cumilla-7

Awami League has nominated Dr Pran Gopal Datta, former vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), to contest the Comilla-7 by-election scheduled for October 7.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the party's parliamentary and local government election nomination board today, with Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair, according to a press release.

The constituency was declared vacant after the death of Comilla-7 constituency lawmaker and former deputy speaker Ali Ashraf on July 30.

The deadline for the submission of nominations is September 13 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is September 19.

Nomination papers will be scrutinised on September 14.
