Better than nothing: Former EC Sakhawat reacts to bill passed in parliament

Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, a former Election Commissioner, said the much-discussed "Appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners Bill" is better than nothing.

"It was expected that the bill would be passed in the parliament. If it's implemented properly, good. However, if controversy arises, necessary changes can be made," he told The Daily Star in an instant reaction.

The bill was passed in parliament today.

Sakhawat believes that the bill should have been thoroughly discussed with all stakeholders.

"Credit goes to Awami League for bringing the bill to parliament and getting it passed," he said.
