AL nominates ex-BCL president Ripon for Gaibandha-5 by-polls

The ruling Awami League has nominated Mahmud Hasan Ripon, former president of Bangladesh Chhatra League, for the Gaibandha-5 by-polls.

Besides, the ruling party today nominated its candidates for 61 Zilla Parishad chairman posts.

The decision came from a joint meeting of AL's Parliamentary Board and Local Government Representative Nomination Board at Gono Bhaban with AL president Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

The meeting chose Ripon out of ten nomination seekers.

Gaibandha-5 constituency, comprising Fulchhari and Saghata, fell vacant with the death of Deputy Speaker Fazle Rabbi Miah who died on July 23. The by-election to the Gaibandha-5 constituency will be held on October 12.

Among the ten, Fazle Rabbi's daughter Farzana Rabbi Bubli collected the party nomination form.

Besides, AL selected its candidates for 61 Zilla Parishad chairman posts among around 500 party leaders that collected party nomination forms.
