2 killed in Cox’s Bazar UP election violence

Two people were killed in violence during union parishad elections in Maheshkhali and Kutubdia upazilas of Cox's Bazar today.

Abul Kalam (35) was killed and five others were injured in a gunfight between the supporters of two chairman candidates at Kutubjum union of Maheshkhali, our Cox's Bazar correspondent reports quoting the district's Additional Superintendent of police Rafiqul Islam.

Voting at two centres remain suspended following the incident.

In another incident, a person was killed and three others were injured during election at Pilitkata Government Primary School centre in Sadar Borogup union in Kutubdia upazila.  

Umar Haider, officer-in-charge of Kutubdia Police Station, told The Daily Star that victim Abul Halim (36) was an agent of the AL chairman candidate.
