12 injured in pre-polls violence in Jashore

At least 12 persons were critically injured in a clash ensued between ruling Awami League-backed and independent candidates at Churamankati union under Jashore Sadar upazila yesterday.

All the injured persons are now undergoing treatment at Jashore General Hospital, reports our Benapole correspondent quoting Tazul Islam, officer-in-charge of Jashore's Kotwali Police Station.

According to eye-witnesses, independent candidate Abdul Mannan's supporters carried out an attack on the supporters of AL backed candidate Daud Hossain when their election campaign reached Churamankati union.

Later clashes, chases and counter-chases occurred between the two groups leaving at least 12 activists of the both the groups injured, police said quoting witnesses.

Ahmed Tarek Shams, on duty doctor of Jashore General Hospital, said the injured people are in critical condition.

On information, police rushed to spot and brought the situation under control, said the OC Tazul.
