In a recent meeting between Porijon Foundation officials and Rajshahi University authorities held at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Senate Bhaban, it was announced that the charity organisation, comprised of Bangladeshi-born US citizens, has decided to increase both the amount and the number of scholarships it provides to underprivileged and meritorious students at RU.

Ariful Islam, chairman of the foundation, and RU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Sultan-ul Islam presided over the meeting, which took place on Tuesday, as confirmed by RU Public Relations office Director Prof Pradeep Kumar Pandey yesterday.

Prof Pandey highlighted that Porijon Foundation has been supporting RU students with scholarships for the past decade, having contributed scholarships worth Tk 80 lakh in 2022 alone. This year, they plan to begin accepting scholarship applications from prospective students in November.

Under the expanded scholarship programme, first and second place winners from each semester or year in every university department will receive Tk 2,000 per month, as per an RU press release.

Those who secure the third to fifth positions will be awarded Tk 1,600 per month. Additionally, underprivileged students who rank among the top 10 percent and 20 percent will receive Tk 1,300 and Tk 1,000 per month, respectively.

The foundation will evaluate and select the scholarship recipients based on the submitted applications.
