UK removes Bangladesh from travel red list

Will put the country on lower-risk category from Sept 22

Bangladesh will be removed from UK's travel "red list" from September 22.

The country will be moved to the lower-risk "amber list" from 4:00am on September 22, which means travellers from Bangladesh will no longer require 10-day quarantine as part of Covid safety measures in a government-sanctioned hotel from that day.

Travellers from countries rated "amber" must also quarantine for 10 days on arrival in the UK. However, there is no requirement to do this in a government-sanctioned hotel; one can self-isolate at home or where they are staying.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen welcomed the decision and thanked the British government for considering Bangladesh's request.

"It is good news. During my recent visit to the UK, I requested the country's government to remove Bangladesh from the red list," Momen said in a video message.

"We thank the British government. We are grateful," said the foreign minister, who is travelling abroad with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina

Passengers coming from "amber list" countries will also have to complete a passenger locator form, then bring a negative Covid-19 testto border checks.

Travellers from "amber" countries must also book and pay for Covid-19 tests to be taken on days two and eight of their home quarantine period.
