With an aim to grow partnership between the two countries, a friendship group named "Mexico-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Group" was formed yesterday (April 6) at the Mexican parliament.

The nine-member committee, headed by Deputy Rosalinda Dominguez Flores, was formed at a meeting held at the Chamber of Deputies of the Mexican parliament.

It is a momentous step towards the growing partnership between the two friendly nations.

President Rosalinda Dominguez Flores in her speech highlighted the similarities between the two countries and emphasised on establishing partnerships in culture, economy, environment, industry, technology and politics.

A strong relationship would be formed between Bangladesh and Mexico based on solidarity and mutual respect, she added.

Thanking Mexican parliament for this noble initiative, Bangladesh Ambassador to Mexico Abida Islam hoped that Bangladesh-Mexico Parliamentary Friendship Group would be formed in the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad soon.

"…A platform can be set up between the elected representatives of both the countries which will help in building strong friendly relations as well as taking bilateral relations to a new height," she said.

Members of the Parliamentary Friendship Group and deputies Martha Alicia Arreola Martinez, Marcos Rosendo Medina Filigrana, Juanita Gerra Mena and Santiago Torreblanca Engel shared their experiences on fortnightly trade, tourism, climate change and its impact and expressed their keen to work together for women empowerment.

Vladimir Carlos Rubio, director of the Asia-Pacific Division of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in his remarks congratulated Bangladesh and assured the Mexico-Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Group of its full support on behalf of the Mexican Foreign Ministry.
