Youth killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab

A youth was killed in a "gunfight" with the members of Rab in Shreepur upazila of Gazipur around 11:30pm on Saturday.

The dead is Parvez, 31, of the upazila's Hardevpur village, said the law enforcers.

The incident took place in the same upazila's Abadar Satchungi area, Rab said.

Mushfiqur Rahman Tushar, assistant director for Rab-1, said miscreants opened fire aiming at a Rab patrol car in the area.

Parvez sustained bullet injuries as Rab members retaliated with them with gunshots, he said, adding that the on-duty doctors of Shreepur Upazila Health Complex declared him dead when he rushed to the medical facility.

Rab also claimed to have recovered 1,000 pieces of yaba pills and live ammunition from the spot. 

The body was handed over to the police.

Khandakar Imam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Shreepur Police Station, said Parvez was warranted in several drugs- and extortion-related cases.

The victim's family members, however, said Parvez was picked up by some unidentified men on Friday night.
