Woman gets life term for smuggling heroin in Narail

A Narail court today sentenced a woman to life term imprisonment for smuggling heroin in 2015.

Narail District and Sessions Court Judge Munshi Md Moshier Rahman fined convict Ahida Begum alias Tia Tk 50,000, our Bagerhat correspondent reports.

The court also acquitted Ahida's husband Shariful Khan and four other accused.

Ahida is a resident of Shankarpasha village under Kotwali Police Station in Jashore.

According to the case statement, a police check post was set up at Sitarampur on Narail-Jashore road on October 13, 2015, during an anti-drug drive.

Based on secret information, police arrested Ahida from a private car. After searching her body, they recovered 100g of heroin hidden in her body.

Ahida's husband Shariful Khan and four others were also arrested from the spot. Police filed a case at Narail Sadar Police Station. After investigating the case, police filed a charge sheet against them in the court.
