The chief of Detective Branch (DB) of police today said they would inform the court that they did not find any involvement of Amatullah Bushra in Buet student Fardin Noor Parash's death.

Bushra, Fardin's friend, was arrested by Rampura police on November 10, three days after Fardin's body was recovered from the Shitalakkhya river. She was accused in a case filed by Fardin's father following his death.

"We did not find Bushra's involvement in the incident [of Fardin's death] ... we will let the court know about this matter," DB chief Harun-or-Rashid told reporters after meeting a group of Buet students at the DB office this afternoon.

The students had gone to the DB office to know details about Fardin's death after the DB on Wednesday said they were suspecting that Fardin died by suicide.

When asked why Bushra, Fardin's friend, has not secured bail yet, Harun-Or-Rashid said it was a matter for the court and they would take decision on her bail.

On November 10, three days after Fardin's body was recovered from the Shitalakkhya river, Rampura police arrested Bushra from Banasree in a case filed by the deceased's father.

DB and Rab, which is conducting a shadow investigation into the death, yesterday said Fardin died by suicide by jumping off a bridge into the Shitalakkhya river.

"Considering all aspects, it appears that Fardin died by suicide. His last known location was on the Sultana Kamal Bridge in Demra," Detective Branch Chief Mohammad Harun Or Rashid told reporters at his office yesterday evening.

Fardin, a third-year student of the Civil Engineering department of Buet, was found dead in the Shitalakkhya river in Banani Ghat area under Siddhirganj Police Station around 4:30pm on November 7.

A lot of controversy and mystery has shrouded the death of Fardin. Fardin's father Nuruddin Rana filed a case accusing Amatullah Bushra, the victim's friend, with Rampura Police Station on November 10.

Rampura Police arrested Bushra from Banasree the same day the case was filed and she has been in jail ever since.

Family members of Amatullah Bushra have maintained that she is completely innocent and was falsely implicated in Fardin's murder case.

"Fardin dropped Bushra in a rickshaw in Rampura TV Centre area from where her mess is a 10-minute walk. She went straight to the mess and did not go outside," her uncle Mazharul Azam told The Daily Star on the day of her arrest.

Mazharul further said that CCTV footage near Bushra's hostel shows that she was walking towards her mess alone on November 4.
