Two hackers arrested for stealing money

The Detective Branch has arrested two hackers for allegedly stealing money from a businessman by hacking into his email IDs.

DMP's Cyber and Special Crime Unit (south) of DB arrested Mohammad Shahiduzzaman Roni and Moazzem Hossain Shakil from Chandpur yesterday, DB Chief Harun Or Rashid told reporters at DB office compound in Dhaka today.

A laptop, three mobile phones, three SIM cards, and a router have been seized from their possession.

The DB chief said the plaintiff in the case, MA Hossain Bari, who represents German-based company Carcon Cargo in Bangladesh, claimed that someone hacked into his email ID and made changes to the company's Bangladesh chapter's bank account, resulting in a loss of $4,800.

According to him, the hackers then used the Bangladesh chapter's email ID and sent an email to the mother company in Germany. In the email, they replaced the Bangladesh chapter's bank account information with their own and requested money to be sent there.

The DB chief said that the hackers collect email and Visa, MasterCard, PayPal, various debit and credit card information from various sites on the dark web.

He said Mohammad Shahiduzzaman alias Roni was previously arrested for digital fraud.
