The High Court today directed to transfer the two cases filed over the incident of gang-rape at Sylhet's MC College in September, 2020 to the Speedy Trial Tribunal from the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of the district in order to finish their trials quickly.

The HC also directed the government to issue a gazette notification in 30 days over transferring of the cases to the Speedy Trial Tribunal of Sylhet.

The bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Ahmed Sohel delivered the verdict following a writ petition filed by the husband of the rape victim seeking necessary directives in this regard.

Petitioner's lawyer Sabrina Zarin told The Daily Star that the HC ordered for transferring of the cases to the Speedy Trial Tribunal as their trial proceedings are quite slow at the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal.

A committee headed by the deputy commissioner of Sylhet at a meeting on February 14 this year decided to transfer the cases over the incident of gang-rape at Sylhet's MC College to the Speedy Trial Tribunal from the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal of the district.

But the government has not issued any gazette notification to this effect, she said, adding the home ministry in association with law ministry will have to issue the gazette notification.

The lawyer said charges have been framed against the accused in both the cases

Deputy Attorney General Samarendranath Biswas represented the state during hearing of the writ petition.
