Suspected robber killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab in Ctg

A suspected robber was killed in a "gunfight" with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab-7) in Banshkhali upazila of Chattogram early today.

The deceased was identified as Md Alamgir (45), alias Alam Dakat, said Rab.

Nurul Absar, media officer of Rab-7 told The Daily Star that Alamgir had stood accused in at least nine cases filed with Banshkhali Police Station and CMP's Pahartali Police Station over different charges.

"Rab had information that a group of 10-12 people gathered early today at Gondamara union of the upazila to prepare for a robbery," the Rab official said.

"When Rab members went to the spot, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing Rab to retaliate," he said.

"After a brief gunfight, Rab members found a bullet-hit body on the spot, later identified as Alamgir," said the Rab official, adding that the other gang members managed to flee.

"Four firearms, 11 bullets, and several sharp weapons were recovered from the scene," he said.

The body was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
