Smuggling to India for dollar: Tk 13cr worth gold seized in Jashore

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized 135 gold worth Tk13.58 crore from three private cars and detained six persons in Jashore early today (June 1, 2022). 

On information, a BGB team intercepted the cars near Bahadurpur Government Primary School around 3:00 am and recovered the gold bars from three vehicles and detained six people from the spot, Lt Col Shahed Minhaj Siddique, commanding officer of 49 BGB Battalion in Jashore told The Daily Star.   

The seized gold is worth around Tk 13.58 crore and weighed 15.8kgs, added the BGB official. 

The detainees are Jahidul Islam, Nazmul Hossain, Arif Miazi, Shah Jalal, Abu Hayat Jony and Rabiul Alam Rabbi. 

During the primary interrogation, the detainees admitted that they collected the gold bars from Dhaka and were transporting those to Jashore bordering areas to smuggle to India in exchange for US dollars, said Lt Col Shahed.
