Situation in hills under control despite Sunday's 'isolated' incident: IGP

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun yesterday said Sunday's attack on Army's patrol team in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban district is an isolated incident.

He also said that the overall situation of the hill districts is under the control of law enforcement agencies.

The IGP came up with the remark at the end of a programme on the occasion of International Women's Day at Rajarbagh Police Lines when his attention was drawn about the activities of the separatist armed terrorist group Kuki-Chin National Army and newly formed militant group "Jamatul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya".

Bangladesh Police Service Association organised the event under the theme "Digital Technology Innovation will eliminate gender discrimination".

A senior army warrant officer was killed and two other soldiers suffered injuries when members of the armed separatist group Kuki-Chin National Army (KNA) opened fire on a patrol team in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban district yesterday.

Replying to a question, the IGP said the hideouts of militants were found in the hills recently. Drives are being conducted to identify their (militants) location.

The operation is still being conducted successfully. Besides, the incident that happened yesterday is an isolated incident. The overall situation is under control, the IGP added.
