SI closed over allegations of extortion in Noakhali

A sub-inspector of Begumganj Police Station in Noakhali was closed for allegedly extorting money from vehicles.

SI Touhidul Islam was closed as per office order of Noakhali district superintendent of police and was attached to Noakhali police lines, our Noakhali correspondent reports quoting Md Shah Emran, additional superintendent of police of Begumganj circle.

According to local sources, SI Touhidul was allegedly extorting money from vehicles on the Jamidarhat Road of the upazila for the last five or six days without wearing his nameplate.

He was closed after an allegation of extortion surfaced against him, said Emran, adding that a probe body will be formed in this connection and legal action will be taken if the allegation is found to be true.

SI Touhidul denied the allegation.
