Police recovered a body of a 15-year-old girl in Tangail's Kalihati upazila today. They also rescued a critically injured boy from the spot.

The deceased was identified as Sumaiya Akter, daughter of Ferdous Rahman of Palima village in the upazila. She was a student of Elenga High School. The injured boy is Monir (17) of Char Bhabla village in the same upazila, reports our local correspondent.

Quoting Sumaiya's family, Molla Azizur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kalihati Police Station, said that Sumaiya left home early in the morning to attend a coaching class near her school.

At around 7:30am, locals discovered her corpse and injured Monir under the staircase of a house near Elenga High School and reported the incident to police, said the OC.

Investigation is currently underway, the OC added.

Monir was taken to Tangail General Hospital and later referred to Dhaka for better treatment, according to Razib Paul, a doctor at the hospital's emergency department.
