RU student found dead at husband’s residence in Dhaka

A student of Rajshahi University (RU) was found dead at her husband's residence at Mohammadpur in Dhaka today (June 6, 2022).

The deceased, Jannatul Mawa Disha -- a student of Theatre Department under 2018-19 session of the university-- hailed from Avoynagar upazila of Jashore, Prof SM Faruque Hossine, chairman of the department told The Daily Star.

The body was sent to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Momin Khan, inspector (Investigation) of Adabar Police Station.

Family sources said Disha had been married since 2020. Her husband Sharif Sumon, a businessman, lives in Mohammadia housing society area in Dhaka.

Talking to the Daily Star, Disha's sister-in-law said, "Disha came to meet her husband last week. I talked to her on Sunday evening, when she seemed unhappy. But around 12pm today, we heard that she was no more."

She added that Disha recently had a family feud with her husband.

Quoting family members, SI Momin Khan further said the doctor declared her dead after her husband Sharif took her to the hospital around 11am.

"We were informed about the incident around 3pm, and found the body at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital. Primarily, we suspect it to be suicide."

According to the police official, no cases have been filed in connection with the incident as of yet.
