Rohingya youth arrested in Feni over mobile phone snatching

A Rohingya youth, who escaped from Cox's Bazar camp three days back, was arrested on charge of snatching a mobile phone in Feni town last night.

The arrestee, Fahim Hossain (29), is a refugee from Balukhali Rohingya camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar, a correspondent from Feni reports quoting police.

Mohammad Nizam Uddin, officer-in-charge of Feni Sadar Model Police Station, said Fahim fled from Balukhali Rohingya camp and came to Feni three days ago.

Preliminary interrogation revealed that he and his accomplices rented a hotel room in Feni town and were engaged in looting, the OC said, adding that a case has been filed against him at the police station. He has been sent to Feni Judicial Court.

Quoting locals, the OC said, a man was buying mangoes from the sidewalk on Trunk Road last night. Fahim pushed the man on the side of the road and snatched his mobile phone from his pocket.

While fleeing, Fahim was grabbed by locals. Another of Fahim's accomplices had escaped at the time. Locals later handed him over to the police, the OC said.
