Criminal case accused appointed assistant judge: Law ministry stays joining

The government has stayed the joining of the recently appointed assistant judge Md Shah Paran, as he is accused of a criminal case filed on charge of physically assaulting a woman in Cox's Bazar in December last year.

The law ministry took the decision in consultation with the Supreme Court. The ministry issued a notification to this effect today.

The government had appointed Shah Paran from Jalirpar village under Pakundia Police Station in Kishoreganj, as assistant judge after he qualified for the 13th Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission (BJSC) examination.

The law ministry on November 25 gave him a posting to the office of assistant judge in Netrokona.

Law Minister Anisul Huq told The Daily Star that his ministry came to know about the matter from the media that a criminal case is going on against Shah Paran.

"Then we (ministry officials) talked to him about the case and he confessed to his being accused of a criminal case.  Later on, we took the decision after consulting with the Supreme Court," said the minister.

Replying to a question, the law minister said the stay order on the joining of Shah Paran as an assistant judge will continue until the trial proceedings of the case against him are completed.

Law ministry sources said the home ministry had earlier given a police verification report to the law ministry saying that there was no adverse information about Shah Paran.
