Rajshahi man dies of self-immolation

A young man died after setting himself on fire at the Rajshahi Medical College field Wednesday night.

According to police, Md Rafi, 24, of the city's Hatem Khan area, poured petrol on himself and set himself on fire around 8:30pm.

Medical students present in the field took him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital's emergency unit.

He was later taken to the burn unit, where he died three hours into his treatment.

Quoting Rafi's family members, SM Siddiqur Rahman, OC of Rajpara Police Station, "He [Rafi] had been under psychiatric treatment at the RMCH for three years due to mental health issues."
