Rapid Action Battalion today rejected allegation of the force's involvement in BNP leader Ilias Ali's disappearance as "baseless".

"The way the information was presented there (on Netra News site) is totally baseless. Rather, we want to say that we have extended highest legal assistance to his wife since Ilias Ali went missing," Khandaker Al Moin, Rab's legal and media wing director, told a press conference, replying to a query, today.

Ilias, then organising secretary of Sylhet division unit of BNP, and his driver Ansar went missing from Dhaka's Banani area on the night of April 17, 2012.

Since then, their families have been anxiously waiting for their return.

Recently, Sweden-based news portal Netra News ran a story which said that Rab was behind the incident.

Moin said whenever Ilias' wife gave information about his possible whereabouts, Rab team went there and tried to find him.

Rab is a law enforcement agency which carried out the drives following law, he said.

"We have assisted her and we are still assisting her… that is our duty as a law enforcement agency. We have tried to find him," Moin said.
