Counterterrorism officials claimed to have arrested members of the banned militant group "Neo JMB" in connection with planting bomb at Signboard police box in Narayanganj's Siddhirganj area in May this year.

The arrestees are: Shafiqur Rahman Ridoy alias Baitullah Mehsud alias Captain Khattab and Khalid Hossain Bhuiyan alias Afnan.

They are members of the "military wing" of the group and are experts in producing bombs and improvised explosives device (IED), Md Asaduzzaman, chief of DMP's Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit, told a press briefing at DMP media centre.

A team of special action group arrested them from Dhaka's Jatrabari area yesterday and recovered bomb-making manuals, explosives and materials, including remote control devices from their possession, he claimed.

"The two were involved in planting bomb in Signboard police box on May 16. Due to a flaw in the remote control system, the failed to explode it on that day and left the place," he said.

Asaduzzaman, also an additional commissioner of DMP, said they conducted the drive based on information given by another militant Abdullah al Mamun, who was arrested during a drive in Araihazar upazila in Narayanganj on July 11.

The official said the duo learned how to make bombs going through the manual and receiving online training from Ismail Hasan Furkan, key explosives expert and trainer of "Neo JMB".

They produced bombs at Araihazar den, he added.

A case was filed with Jatrabari Police Station in this regard.
