Condemning the deaths of two people in clash at Panchagarh yesterday, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has urged all authorities concerned to take appropriate steps to ensure the safety and security of members of the Ahmadiyya community.

"Such an attack on a religious community is not acceptable in any way," the rights body said in a statement issued today.

This behaviour is a violation of the fundamental right to freedom of religion, the statement added.

ASK demanded action against those involved in the incident following proper investigation.

Two people were killed and at least 30 others, including seven policemen, were injured yesterday in a clash between law enforcers and supporters of some Islamist organisations who were demonstrating against a programme of the Ahmadiyya community in Panchagarh.

The agitators set fire to 30 houses and four shops belonging to Ahmadiyyas, and attacked a local police station as well.
