Pabna madrasa teacher arrested for torturing student over using mobile phone

A madrasa teacher was arrested today in a case filed for mercilessly torturing a student for using mobile phone in Pabna's Bera upazila.

The arrestee is Md Rahmatullah (30), superintendent of Rohima Khatun Modinatul Ulum Nurani Hafizia Madrasa in Bera and a resident of Kornoghosh village in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj, reports our Pabna correspondent.

Arbinda Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Bera Model Police Station, said police arrested the accused madrasa teacher from Bera municipality market area early today after a case was filed against him yesterday.

He was sent to jail by a judicial magistrate court this noon, said the OC.

Quoting the case statement, the OC said Rahamatullah mercilessly beat up student Shihab Hossain (13) on January 31 for using mobile phone in his room in the madrasa.

Shihab, son of Sohel Rana of Shanyalpara village, was later taken to Bera Upazila Health Complex, said the police official.

After a photo of the injured boy went viral on social media, victim's grandfather Abul Kalam filed a case accusing Rahmatullah yesterday, the OC added.
