Mystery shrouds deaths of three

Cops recover bodies from beach

Three bodies were recovered from different points of the Cox's Bazar sea beach over the last two days.

The dead were identified as Mohammad Emon, 18, Nafiq Oishik, 26, and Avra, around 23. Emon was a local, while the other two were tourists from Jashore.

Oishik's family members claimed Oishik and Avra, who were friends, might have been killed. Police refused to make any comments on this claim.

Body of Emon, a resident of Chandrima Residential area of Cox's Bazar town, was recovered from the beach's Kolatoli Sugandha point on Friday around 1:00pm.

The two others were residents of Kotwali area of Jashore.

Oishik's body was recovered around 3:00pm from the same area.

Avra's body was recovered from beach's Nazirartek point yesterday around 12:30pm, said police and district administration officials.

Immediately after recovering the bodies, police prepared the inquest reports. The bodies were then sent to hospital for autopsy, said Sheikh Munir-ul-Gias, officer-in-charge of Cox's Bazar Sadar Model Police Station, while speaking to The Daily Star yesterday.

"Two of the bodies were handed over to their family members after autopsy. The process of handing over the other is still underway."

Police were investigating the reason behind their deaths.

Oishik and Avra went to Cox's Bazar in a group of six. The four others of their group have been detained for interrogation, OC Sheikh Munir said.

Contacted, Shaheen Md Abdur Rahman Chowdhury, resident medical officer (RMO) of Cox's Bazar District Sadar Hospital, confirmed that autopsies of the bodies have been completed.

Meanwhile, Oishik's father Kaseduzzaman Selim yesterday told some journalists that a police official from Cox's Bazar told him over phone that Oishik and Avra may have been killed by the four other travel mates and police were investigating into the incident.
