Mother, son burnt as miscreants torch house in Patuakhali

A fire set by a miscreant burnt a mother and her six-month-old son at Satani village in Patuakhali's Dumki upazila yesterday.

Victims Halima Akhter Mim, 20, and her son Walif Islam Jisan were admitted to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for treatment.

The incident took place at a house in the new market area of the Dumki upazila town around 3:30pm, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.

Police and locals said Jamal Hossain Prince, the husband and father of the victims, was not present when someone entered the house, tied Halima with rope and set the fire using kerosene.

Neighbours came to their rescue hearing their cry for help.

Md Abul Bashar, officer-in-charge of Dumki Police Station, said they are collecting and reviewing the CCTV footage of the area to arrest culprits.
