Mother, son among 3 to die for murdering child in Ctg

A Chattogram court today (May 18, 2022) sentenced three persons including a woman to death for killing two-year-old boy Araf in Bakalia area of the port city in 2020.

The convicts are Md Farid, 38, Md Hasan, 23 and Hasan's mother Nazma Begum, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.

Md Jasim Uddin, judge of Chattogram Additional Metropolitan Session Judge's court-3, passed the order as the court found them guilty beyond doubt.

After the verdict, the convicts were sent to Chattogram jail, the court sources said.

According to the prosecution, convict Farid had a quarrel with Bakalia Ward Councillor Nurul Alam Mia over previous city election.

Following the feud, Farid plotted to implicate Nurul in a false case and contracted Md Hasan to make the plan success.

Hasan was the security guard of ward councillor Nurul Alam's building, located at Bakalia's Match Factory Road, where the Araf's father was a tenant.

As per the plan, Nazma with the help of her son Hasan threw Araf into the water tank on the rooftop while he was playing outside on June 7, 2020. Later police recovered the body from the water tank. Later, a case was lodged in this connection.

After investigation, police arrested Farid, Nazma and her son in this connection and submitted charge sheet before the court implicating the trio. A court later framed charges against them on March 10, 2021.
