Former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akter was shown arrested today in a case which he filed over murder of his wife -- Mahmuda Khanam Mitu -- with Panchlaish Police Station in 2016.

Babul filed the case with Panchlaish Police Station accusing three unidentified criminals for killing his wife Mitu on June 5, 2016. Mitu was stabbed and shot dead while she was taking her son to his school bus stop at Chattogram city's GEC intersection.

Chattogram's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Abdul Halim passed the order accepting a prayer submitted by Abu Jafar Md Omar Faruk, inspector of Police Bureau of Investigation and also investigation officer of the case.

Confirming the development, Inspector Faruk said that PBI filed the petition on December 27 last year.

In connection with the murder, two cases have been lodged -- one by Babul Akter and another by Mitu's father Mosharraf Hossain -- with Panchlaish Police Station. Now both cases are being investigated by the PBI.

On May 11 last year, Chattogram PBI summoned Babul to its office for interrogation. He failed to give satisfactory answers to the detectives and was taken into PBI custody. The following day, Mitu's father filed a murder case against eight people, making Babul the prime accused in the case. Mitu's father alleged that Babul is the mastermind of the killing and he killed his wife over his extra-marital affair.
