Miscreants stab AL leader to death, take Tk 2.5 lakh in Noakhali’s Begumganj

Miscreants stabbed an Awami League leader to death and took away Tk 2.50 lakh cash and three mobile phones from his possession in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali last night.

The deceased, Sayed Bhuiyan Ripon (48), was a joint secretary of AL's Mirwarish union unit in the upazila, reports our Noakhali correspondent.

On information, police recovered Sayed's body from Badi Gachhtola, adjacent to his house, around 10:00am sent it to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Mir Zahedul Haque Ronny, officer-in-charge of Begumganj Police Station.   

Sayed's son Imran Hossain said his father was the manager of Lal-Sabuj Paribahan's Begumganj Chowrasta Bus Counter.

He was returning from the bus counter along with the cash around 2:00am today when the incident occurred, Imran said.

Sayed was supposed to give the money for his brother's treatment, his son said.
