Legal notice served to resume B’baria rail services

A legal notice has been served to the government seeking resumption of Brahmanbaria Rail Station services which was suspended on March 27 of this year following the Hefajat mayhem.

Supreme Court lawyer Majibul Haque Bhuiyan served the notice addressing seven officials of Bangladesh Railway on October 10, reports our Bramanbaria correspondent.

The recipients are director general of Bangladesh Railway, additional director general, joint director general (Operations), general manager of eastern railway, additional general manager and head of Eastern Railway and Brahmanbaria Railway Station master.

"The notice was sent to the recipients via email on October 10. In addition, the notice was also mailed to them at their respective mailing addresses the next day. They were asked to reply to the notice within seven working days," Majibul told The Daily Star.

The legal notice said that more than six months have passed since the Hefajat mayhem damaged the train station but within this time the authorities failed to restore the operation of the railway station and as a result of this failure, thousands of passengers are suffering every day.

Moreover, the notice's recipients are not specifying any date or time to resume its full operation to the way it was before March 26.

On March 26, Hefazat-e-Islam men vandalised and torched Brahmanbaria Railway Station protesting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit.

The signal system of the station was damaged and as a result, all train services at the station was suspended on March 27.
