A Jahangirnagar University student was picked up last night from Gerua area by people in plain clothes claiming to be members of Rapid Action Battalion, the student's friends alleged.

Boni Amin Fakir, a second-year student of the university's biochemistry and molecular biology department, was picked up from his rented mess yesterday around 11:30pm, his friends said, adding that the plainclothesmen said Boni was suspected of militant involvement.

Mozzammel Haque, commanding officer of Rab-4, said he was not aware of the incident.

"I will let you know later," he told our JU university correspondent.

Boni's friend Md Mohsiul Momin Tonmoy said, "A group of plainclothes persons introducing themselves as members of Rab-4 entered our mess and started searching Boni's room while confining us to another room."

Later, they took him into a microbus, he said, adding that when they asked them to inform the proctor before taking Boni, they threatened us and left the place quickly.
