I've killed my husband, woman says on 999 call

A woman stabbed her husband to death in Jhalakathi's Rajapur area early today, and then called 999 to surrender to police.

The deceased was identified as Rabiul Awal Talukder, 39, an auto-rickshaw driver in Putiakhali area.

"I have killed my husband. Now I want to surrender to police," Anwar Sattar, inspector (media) of the national helpline, quoted Safia Khatun as saying after she called 999.

The 999 officials told Rajapur police about the matter. The law enforcers then rushed to the address and arrested Safia, 33, a mother of two.

During interrogation, Safia told police that she and her husband fought constantly. She committed the murder as she suspected that Rabiul had married another woman and also feared that he might kill her any time.

Following a quarrel last night, Safia sedated her husband with sleeping pills and stabbed him, police said quoting the arrestees.

A case was filed in this regard.
