Instigating death by suicide: Henolux MD, director denied bail

Henolux Group Managing Director Nurul Amin and its Director Fatema Amin were sent to jail today (July 9, 2022) after their bail petition in a case filed on charges of instigating a businessman to die by suicide was rejected.

Metropolitan Magistrate Debdash Chandra Adhikary passed the order after Gazi Salauddin, inspector of Detective Branch of police and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before it on completion of their two-day remand in the case.

The magistrate also directed the jail authorities to provide the couple with better treatment facilities as per the Jail Code after their lawyer submitted an application in this regard.

The IO said during remand the couple admitted their guilt in taking a large amount of money from the victim. But they avoided several questions.

Moreover, the couple did not return the money, causing him to be utterly frustrated. That is why the victim set himself on fire that caused his death, he said.

The IO appealed to the court to keep the duo in jail the jail until the investigation is completed.

The couple's lawyer however, submitted two petitions--one for seeking bail and the other--for providing them with proper treatment in jail.

Rapid Action Battalion (on July 5 arrested the couplw from the capital's Uttara after a case was filed against them.

Earlier on that day, the brother of the victim Gazi Anisur Rahman, who died on July 5, of burn injuries, filed the case against the couple at Shahbagh Police Station.

The 50-year-old businessman from Kumarkhali of Kushtia, set himself on fire in front of Jatiya Press Club in the capital on July 4, after losing the money he had invested in a company owned by Amin.

He died at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery the following morning where he was taken with 90 percent of his body burnt.
