HC orders Viqarunnisa authorities to admit 18 students to class 1

The High Court today directed authorities concerned of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College to immediately admit the siblings of 18 of its existing students as first-graders.

The bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Showkat Ali Chowdhury passed the order following a writ petition filed by the guardians of the 18 aspirant students seeking necessary directives to this effect, petitioners' lawyer Md Eunus Ali Akond told The Daily Star.

Earlier on January 31 this year, the HC stayed the effectiveness of an education ministry circular and directed Viqarunnisa Noon School and College to admit the sisters of its 41 students as first graders.

On January 16 this year, the education ministry issued the circular saying only five percent students beyond the total seats will be admitted into entry level and other classes at private institutions.

The writ petitioners challenged the January 16 circular, saying the children could not be admitted into Viqarunnisa Noon School and College due the conditions of the circular, which was not in place when they applied for admission.
