Govt official held while taking bribe

The Anti-Corruption Commission arrested a government official while taking a bribe in Dinajpur yesterday.

The arrestee is Mostafizur Rahman, deputy inspector of the Department of Inspection of Factories and Establishments in Dinajpur.

According to the ACC, Mostafizur received Tk 80,000 as a bribe from Eshan Agro and Food (Pvt) Ltd. The anti-graft watchdog seized the money as evidence.

ACC officials said Raseduzzaman Rassull, senior executive of Eshan Agro and Food (Pvt) Ltd, went to Dinajpur DIFE for renewing a licence of his company.

Mostafizur demanded Tk 80,000 for processing the papers and threatened Rassull with cases against two persons of his company if the bribe was not paid before May 23, Rassull mentioned in a written complaint.

On information, a seven-member team, led by ACC Deputy Director Ahsanul Kabir Polash raided the government office and caught Mostafizur red-handed around 3:30pm Wednesday.

ACC DD Polash said they were processing a case against the arrestee and would take further legal actions against him.
