Gas explosion case: Ctg building owner granted bail

A Chattogram court today granted bail to the landlord of a building where a gas explosion killed one person on Monday.

Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Sarwar Jahan granted the bail to building owner Mamtaj Mia after police produced him before it on completion of one-day remand, said Jahir Hossain, officer-in-charge Akbarshah Police Station, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.

Five others of the family, who sustained severe burn injuries in the explosion are undergoing treatment at the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH)

Mamtaj, the owner of the six-storey building "Morium Villa" at the Community Centre Road of Uttar Kattali, was arrested on Monday after the incident.

Earlier, Md Jamal Sheikh, husband of the deceased filed a case against Mamtaj and the building's caretaker Bakhtiar.

Meanwhile, Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir gave financial aid to the family for their treatment. OC Jahir handed over the money to Jamal's son Limon Sheikh.

On November 8, last year, three people were killed in another gas explosion of the same building. And within one year, another gas explosion happened in the same flat on Monday.
