Framing man with yaba: ASI, 2 informants’ bail plea rejected, sent to jail

A Dhaka court today (September 11, 2022) rejected bail petitions of a suspended assistant sub-inspector of Pallabi Police Station and his two informants and sent them to jail in a case filed against them for framing a man in a drug case.

The accused are ASI Mahbubul Alam and his informants Mohammad Rubel and Sohel Rana.

Metropolitan Md Ataullah passed the order after SI Md Anwar Hossain of Cantonment Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case produced them before it on expiry of their two-day remand in the case.

Mahbubul, in plainclothes, reportedly put yaba pills into the pocket of a pedestrian Khalilur Rahman (35) on Tuesday (September 6, 2022) and then showed him arrested in a narcotics case.

In the forwarding report, the IO said the accused gave important information about the incident but avoided several questions such as why they implicated an innocent man. As such, they should be confined in jail until the investigation is completed, the IO added.

Defence meanwhile submitted two separate petitions, seeking bail in the case.

On hearing both sides, the magistrate turned down the defence pleas and sent them to Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj.

Earlier on September 7, the trio was arrested for their alleged involvement with framing a man in a drug case.
