Faruk Murder Case: HC denies bail to Tangail mayor

The High Court yesterday denied bail to former Tangail mayor Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti in a murder case.

The case was filed over the murder of Faruk Ahmed, a freedom fighter and Tangail district Awami League leader.

The vacation bench of Justice Md Salim and Justice Md Atabullah sent Shahidur's bail petition back to his lawyer Mohammad Abdul Muntakim, saying there is no need to hear the petition at the moment.

The petition might be presented to a regular bench after the Appellate and HC divisions of the Supreme Court resume their activities on January 2, Deputy Attorney General Shahin Ahmed Khan told The Daily Star.

Faruk, 60, was found dead near his residence in the town on January 18, 2013, hours after he was shot.

Three days after the murder, Faruk's wife Nahar Ahmed filed a case with Tangail Model Police Station in this connection. Unidentified persons were made accused in the case.

On September 6, 2017, a Tangail court filed murder charges against former AL lawmaker Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, his brother Shahidur, and 12 others.
