Ex-female UP member's throat-slit body recovered in Bogura

Police recovered a woman's throat-slit body from Modha Para village in Raynagar union under Bogura's Shibganj upazila last afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Nargis Ara Begum, 55, a former union parishad member of the Raynagar union of the upazila. Her late husband, Abdul Quader, was a BNP leader, reports our Bogura correspondent.

Assistant Superintendent of Police of Shibganj Circle Tanveer Hasan told The Daily Star, "Nargis Ara used to live alone in her house. On Friday, she visited her sister's house in Mokamtala, and returned home Saturday around 11:30pm. This afternoon, locals found her body and informed the police."

Police went to the house and recovered the body, he said.

Her body will be sent to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy today, he added.

Asked what could be the reason behind the murder, Tanveer Hassan said they were initially suspecting it a case of theft or robbery.

"On Saturday, when she returned home at night, she may have recognised the thief, who hacked her with a sharp weapon and fled," he said.

Police are trying to identify the attacker, said the ASP.
