Elderly man stabbed to death by mentally ill son in Ashulia

An elderly man was stabbed to death by his mentally ill son in Ashulia early today.

The deceased was identified as Nur Mohammad (70), of Jirani Konapara area of ​​Ashulia. He was father of seven daughters and a son, reports our Savar correspondent.

Quoting family, Ziaul Islam, inspector (investigation) of Ashulia Police Station, said that Afaz Uddin (40), went to sleep in his father's room last night. Around 2am today, Afaz stabbed his father Nur Mohammad with a boti (long curved local machete).

Nur Mohammad was later rushed to Savar Enam Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, the inspector said.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said the inspector, adding that police are trying to locate the accused as he went into hiding after the incident.

Shakhawat Hossain, son-in-law of Nur Mohammed, said, Afaz had been mental unwell since 2006. He is undergoing treatment since then.
