Elderly couple in Cumilla strangled to death

An elderly couple was strangled to death by miscreants at Subarnapur village, under Panchthubi union of Cumilla Sadar upazila, early today.

The deceased were identified as Billal Hossain (75) and his wife Safura Begum (56), our correspondent reports quoting police.

According to family members of the deceased, seven to eight miscreants broke into the house during last night's heavy rains, tied the couple's hands and feet, and were looking for some documents. As they couldn't find the documents, the miscreants strangled the couple to death, the family members suspected.

Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station Inspector (Investigation), Kamal Krishna Dhar, said that the couple's hands and legs were tied but there was no injury mark on their bodies.

Police are trying to identify the miscreants by speaking with family members, said the inspector, adding that the bodies were sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
