Ekattor TV journalist Shakil Ahmed gets ad-interim bail

A Dhaka court today granted ad-interim bail to Ekattor TV journalist Shakil Ahmed in a case filed against him on charges of "establishing sexual relationship with a news presenter with false promises".

Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court granted him bail until submission of probe report after Shakil, through his lawyer, submitted a petition in this connection.

On November 8 last year, the High Court granted anticipatory bail for four weeks to Shakil, head of news at Ekattor TV, after his surrender before it.

On November 4 last year, a former news presenter of Deepto TV filed the case against Shakil under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act with Gulshan Police Station.

In the case, she also alleged that Shakil had forced her to abort her seven-month-old fetus.
