A Dhaka University (DU) student was allegedly beaten by a peer yesterday.

Al Mohaiminul Khan, a Mass Communication and Journalism department student at the university, was allegedly assaulted by Sajib Khandaker, a History department student, according to a complaint submitted today by the former to the university's Proctor, Prof Dr AKM Golam Rabbani, along with a general diary.

Mohaiminul told our DU correspondent that he was walking towards Bangla Academy in front of Suhrawardy Udyan's Mukto Moncho last evening.

Sajib blocked his path and tried to snatch his belongings, and hit him at one point, Mohaiminul said.

Sajib yesterday said that he did not mean to hurt Muhaiminul, and it was unintentional. He could not be reached today for comment regarding the allegation of trying to snatch Mohaiminul's belongings.

The DU Proctor said, "We received a letter of complaint from a student. We will investigate it and take appropriate action in accordance with the university's rules if the allegation is true."
