DU prof arrested over forging land documents

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) today arrested a professor at Dhaka University's Institute of Business Administration (IBA) in a case filed for registering land with fake documents.

Prof Abu Yousuf Mohammed Abdullah was arrested from Dhaka's Banani area this afternoon, said Abu Yusuf, PBI additional superintendent of police (media wing).

When contacted, DU Proctor Prof Golam Rabbani told The Daily Star, "I still don't have any information about the arrest of the DU professor. I'm trying to find out what happened".

Prof Yousuf is also the chairman of Northern University Bangladesh's Board of Trustees and Prasad Nirman Ltd.

Md Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, a real estate businessman, filed the case today at Khilkhet Police Station accusing Prof Yousuf, two other named and six to seven unnamed persons.

According to the case statement, the plaintiff made an agreement with the accused persons for selling a five-bigha land of Asian Lands Development in exchange for Tk 50 crore in 2013.

After the agreement, the accused paid Tk 30 crore to the plaintiff and said they would pay the rest of the money later. After getting the Tk 30 crore, the plaintiff allowed them to start their project on the land.

When the plaintiff asked for the rest of the money from the accused in 2019, they said the rest Tk 20 crore was paid to plaintiff Saiful's elder brother.

Later, Saiful learned that the accused had illegally made registration of the land showing fake signatures and documents.
